Most weeks, I meet passionate worship leaders who love to worship and long to lead their people well. But often there are gaps in confidence, musical skill, or spiritual understanding that make it hard to lead as freely and effectively as they’d like. Concerns about “reaching the moment,” wondering whether the congregation is connecting, figuring out how to flow between songs, and sensing the Holy Spirit’s leading — these are just a few of the things that can cause anxiety and self-doubt.
I get it. I’ve had many moments where fear has crept in and I’ve thought, “What if I pick the wrong song and blow it?!”I’ve known what it is to step out in faith — and what it is to shrink back. But God calls us to love Him, love His people, and lead them to Him. We want to do this with both skill and confidence.
After more than 30 years of leading worship, I’ve experienced all kinds of highs and lows. Along the way, I’ve learned principles and practices that have helped me grow — and I want to pass those on to you.
When we encounter the love and presence of the triune God — Father, Son, and Spirit — we are changed. As worship leaders, our calling is to help create space for that encounter through sung worship, inviting our congregations to participate, not just observe.
One of the key things we experience as worship leaders is that feeling of being alone. We may have questions or be in need of support as we lead week in, week out. That is why I have created 'Lou Fellingham Worship Hub'. A place where we can gather online as worship leaders, develop our gifts as worship leaders and cheer each other on. Recognising we all have things to share and receive.
As a gift for you, I have put together a resource, 'How to prepare a songlist with ease'. All you have to do is head here to sign up and it's YOURS FOR FREE.
